“Our fine cooperation is based on good communication”
Dutch Adyen has more than 4,000 employees in approximately 25 countries. About 80 of them work in Sweden and here BDO helps with managing everything related to payroll. – Cina Brunnberg with whom we work is really “on top of things”, says Mark van der Meer, Payroll Controller.
Adyen offers a fintech platform for end-to-end payments, data and funds management in a one-stop solution. Since the launch in 2006, the company has grown into a major player in the payments industry with many renowned customers worldwide.
Outsourced payroll function
In Sweden, Adyen currently has about 80 employees. The management of payroll for these has been outsourced by the company to BDO. In practical terms, input gets downloaded from the HR system to Mark van der Meer, who is stationed in Amsterdam. Mark, in turn, sends data to BDO which executes payroll payments and accounting for tax and social security contributions.
There are also a lot of questions that can come up along the way. Here Mark believes that BDO has everything you could want from a partner.
“Cina is very good to communicate with. She is easy to reach, quickly grasps the issues and always finds solutions. She really has an eye for detail, and if it is a matter that requires different expertise, she always recommends the right person for us to contact,” says Mark.
Cina is also very happy with the cooperation.
“It is always a challenge to work with foreign companies, but Mark has great interest in Swedish regulations and is always quick to take in information. A somewhat special aspect is that the company does not have collective agreements, but employees still usually have better conditions.
Back to BDO
Between 2017 and 2020, BDO handled payroll management for Adyen, but then the company chose to outsource the work to another supplier. The idea was that the payroll process would become more automated and integrated into the company's other systems. But instead of simplifying the work, it resulted in more administration work for Adyen. So in 2022 the company was back with BDO, which can be seen as a very high mark.
“The payroll function in a company simply has to work. So for us, it is important that the work goes smoothly and things are done right. BDO offers high expertise and quality and that makes us feel confident. Our fine cooperation is based on good communication, says Mark.
In the future, it is possible that Adyen will look at integrated payroll solutions.
“As I understand it, this is something that BDO is developing. If they come up with a good plan, we would certainly be interested, Mark concludes.
